The Earthwood Phosphor Bronze wrap wire is made from 92% copper, 7.7% tin and 0.3% phosphorus, wound around a tin-plated, hex-shaped steel core. The phosphor bronze winding has a characteristic light orange-gold colour.

Ernie Ball describes the sound as mellow and ringing, with excellent clarity. This is an acoustic bass set, distinct from both the smaller-gauge six-string acoustic guitar sets and the nickel-wound electric bass range.
